Raised in Potomac, Maryland, Eng began playing piano and singing at age five, developing a classical foundation that soon intertwined with a love of theater and storytelling. Immersed in Washington, D.C.’s vibrant performing arts community, he made early appearances at the Kennedy Center, Ford’s Theatre, and Studio Theatre before graduating high school.

At Northwestern University, Eng majored in Theatre and Music Direction, later adding a second degree in Music from the Bienen School of Music. There he deepened his work in composition, orchestration, and arranging—skills that quickly led to professional projects, including orchestrating for a multi-million-dollar gala hosted by Stephen Colbert. His versatility has since fueled collaborations with Broadway luminaries such as Heather Headley, Nancy Dussault, and Richard Kind, as well as arrangements for The American Pops Orchestra and Transcendence Theatre Company. During his undergraduate years, he also originated the role of Junker G in the world premiere of Ever in the Glades at the Kennedy Center.

At just twenty years old, Eng made his network television debut, commercial debut, and Chicago theatre debut—culminating in the release of his acclaimed debut album 20, showcasing his talents as singer, pianist, arranger, orchestrator, and producer leading a 27-piece jazz orchestra. The Chicago Sun-Times noted that “Eng’s star wattage is undeniable,” a sentiment echoed by audiences throughout his breakout years as one of Chicago’s most dynamic young entertainers.

Press & Reviews

Now based in New York City, Eng continues to bridge the worlds of jazz and theater. Following his appearance in Plaza Suite on Broadway, he has headlined sold-out shows at Birdland Jazz Club, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and the Carlyle, where his Circle Room Trio maintains a weekly residency. As he expands his career internationally, Eng is also preparing to release a slate of original music that NiteLife Exchange praised for revealing “an entirely different side of himself as a singer-songwriter in the mold of modern pop composers such as Paul Simon, Billy Joel, and Paul McCartney.”

Eng holds dual bachelor’s degrees from Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music and School of Communication, where he studied Acting with Dawn Mora, Jazz Piano with Jeremy Kahn, and Music Direction with Dr. Ryan Nelson. Additional acting training includes work with The Second City Chicago, Bob Krakower Studio, and José Pérez. He continues his study of jazz under the mentorship of New York pianist Emmet Cohen and trumpeter Bruce Harris.
